Robert D. Gatewood Ph.D. is widely recognized for his work and expertise in the area of human behavior within organizations. His Ph.D. is in industrial psychology, and he has served as a university professor and researcher, consultant, executive educator, and textbook author. Dr. Gatewood is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Georgia.
Dr. Gatewood is internationally known for his textbook Human Resource Selection now in its 9th edition (770 pages). A central focus of this book is how to identify the match between the personal characteristics of employees and the work demands of their positions. It is one of the rare books that has been published in four consecutive decades.
Dr. Gatewood has also written the textbook, Management: Comprehension, Analysis, and Application that has been used in undergraduate and MBA courses. His research has been published in the leading academic journals of industrial psychology and organizational behavior. Also, Dr. Gatewood has held elected leadership positions in the Academy of Management Human Resource Division and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
Dr. Gatewood is an experienced consultant and executive educator who has worked with companies such as IBM, Ford Motor, The State of Georgia, Gulf Power Co, AT&T, and PPG Industries. This work has mainly been in the selection of employees, strategic human resources, performance management, motivation, and leadership.
Dr. Gatewood received his AB in Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis and his MS and Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Purdue University. He is married to Christine Riordan, Ph.D. President of Adelphi University in New York. They have two children in college, Mikaela and Mason, and an Olde English Bulldogge named Georgia. Dr. Gatewood collects tacky snow globes from cities around the world, enjoys listening to books on history and science, and always makes sure his family receives the word-of-the-day email.
